Welcome to Murrieta: City Overview

Just minutes from the city of Temecula you'll find Murrieta, otherwise known as the "Gem of the Valley."  Murrieta's natural beauty has attracted residents and visitors for over a hundred years.  In 1873, Spanish-born Ezequial Murrieta purchased 52,000 acres of land from the Rancho Pauba and Rancho Temecula Mexican land grants.  Eventually, he returned to Spain and gave the land to his brother, Juan, who used it to raise sheep.

When Murrieta was added to the transcontinental route of the Southern California Railroad it quickly gained popularity.  With natural resources like the Murrieta Hot Springs Resort, this small town saw a boom of visitors, residents, and businesses.  However, it wasn't until the late 1980s that Murrieta saw another economic expansion.  Since the construction of the I-15 freeway and easier access to the Valley, Murrieta has grown in countless ways.

Escape to Murrieta for a weekend of great food, great company, and great views.  The small-town feel, paired with the scenic views and countless activities, makes it the perfect getaway.  From a vibrant art scene to local flavors and cuisine, there is something for all ages.  Countless days filled with sunshine give way to outdoor exploration and play.  Come bike, hike, ride horses, golf, or enjoy the thrill of extreme sports.  Spend the day on the water and come into town for a delicious BBQ dinner.  You will quickly see why people are falling in love with Murrieta.
